How CBD Cured my Insomnia

What is CBD?
Before you start worrying that CBD is a gateway drug and is illegal, please pause. CBD (also known as "cannabidoil") is a medical marijuana. It's the good stuff extracted from the cannabis plant to create a safe-to-use form we know to be CBD.
There are a few different forms of CBD (which I’ll talk about later) but what’s important to know is that it’s not addictive. The addictive substance of cannabis (THC) is removed from its biology. So you won’t get any midnight munchies from CBD oil. Panic over.
How do you use CBD?
There are several ways to use CBD. You can use gummies (literally little gummy bears), CBD oil, capsules and even a water-soluble version. The liquids get into your bloodstream quicker, and are usually more popular.
The amount of CBD you take is calculated by your weight and desired strength (i.e. how conked out you want to feel). If you’re intrigued but don’t know what dosage in mg to order - use this handy calculator.
Disclaimer: the best way to take CBD is personal preference. If you want a dissolvable version (which is virtually tasteless) use a water-soluble CBD. If you prefer to get it over with in one swift gulp, buy the capsules. Ultimately, they all work the same way.
The 30-day trial
I’d heard a lot about the benefits of CBD and how people used it to help with mild symptoms of anxiety and depression. (Trust me, CBD is a big buzzword in the mental health world!) What I didn’t realise was that CBD is also used for Insomnia, too.
The medical definition of Insomnia is somewhat convoluted. My version is: difficulty falling or getting to sleep usually characterised by:
- Sleepless nights
- Feeling tired all day but extremely alert at night
- Restless tossing and turning
- Clock-watching, counting how many hours you have left to sleep
Initially, I thought it was my anxiety affecting my sleep. (And being glued to the screen watching TikTok before bed…) Whilst these factors probably didn’t help, I definitely fit the bill for short-term insomnia.
After months of poor sleep, I caved. I spent £40 on a bottle of water-soluble CBD and used around 5-10 drops in a cup of sleep tea. I drank this concoction 1 hour before bed for 30 days straight.
The Results?
The first time I tried CBD, I was reluctant to say the least. Could this little bottle really be the answer to my sleep problems? Turns out, this was the best £40 I’d ever spent.
On the first day, I noticed the effects. I felt much more relaxed, my eyes were drooping, my mind was blank. A good start.
Two weeks in and I was even more surprised. I was asleep within 20 minutes. Granted, I woke up a few times in the night, but not near as much as pre-CBD.
After 30 days, my magic tea was a nightly ritual. Now I take it maybe once a week, when I’m feeling a bit more stressed or anxious than usual.
Does it really work?
I should probably prefix that I didn’t change anything else about my bedtime routine. My screen-time was still pretty (embarrassingly) high before bed and I didn’t opt for reading or meditate or anything you’re supposed to do.
So my honest opinion on CBD for Insomnia? It works like a dream.
Want to try it for yourself?
After reviewing this life-saver remedy, I reached out to the brand I’d trialled to thank them. In return, they gave me a cheeky code for anyone who’s looking to try CBD. I do LOVE a bargain, don’t you?
There are tons of brands out there selling CBD; it’s overwhelming to say the least. So if you don’t know where to start, I highly recommend cbDNA UK. Just use my code NADS20 at the checkout to get 20% off. You’re welcome!
Important: Always always go to your GP first to check that it’s safe for you to use CBD, especially if you have any diagnosed medical issues or during pregnancy.
